Practice Problems (from the online chapter 6.5):6.127, 6.129, 6.131 Additional Problems: 6.137, 6.139,6.141,6.143,6.145 There is an ongoing debate about whether to label genetically engineered (GE) foods. In the United States, many processed foods include at least one soybeans, corn, or canola. Suppose 71% of all Americans believe approximation to the binomial distribution. f GE ingredient, for example, GE 0 Americans is selected. Answer part b) using the normal GE foods should be labeled and a random sample or si a) is the normal approximate to the binomial appropriate in this situation? Do part b) no matter what your answer is in this part
Explanation / Answer
Let X is a random variable shows the number of Americans believed that GE foods should be labeled. Here X has binomial distribution with parameters n=510 and p=0.71
a)
Here we have
np = 510 *0.71 = 362.1
n(1-p) = 510 * 0.29 = 147.9
Since np and n(1-p) both are greater than 5 so normal approximation is appropriate.
Note: Part b is not given so I am not able to solve it.
