Question
am going to give you a prompt and want you to take a crack at designing the study yourself. The catch is you have to create two types of designs to try to answer that question. The two designs you create cannot be the same (i.e. don't create two experimental designs, pick an experimental and a quasi-experimental). Give it a shot PROMPT: Wilbur Wildcat has been fascinated by the amount of students he sees on campus watching Netflix shows. Aside from him being jealous of people being able to navigate the mouse and keyboard to play Netflix on their devices (given his comically large paws) he is curious if those that have Netflix accounts have lower GPAs then those without Netflix accounts. He wants you to design two different studies (one experimental and one quasi-experimental) to answer his question. Assume there are not ethical or logistical (i.e.costs and resources) barriers. He wants you to run this experiment during the spring semester with cumulative GPA as outcome of interest. DESIGN 1: What is your research question?: Type of Design: (Experimental, quasi experimental) How will the study be conducted (include descriptions of use of pre-tests, post-tests, control groups What is your independent and dependent variables?: IV: DV: State one pro of the design (what about the design makes you confident that you can state cause and effect?): State one con of the design (what about the design makes you less confident that you can state cause and effect?): DESIGN agExplanation / Answer
Type of Design: Quasi Experimental design
Procedures: Firstly Divide the students (with Netflix account and without Netflix account) and take the mean of GPA of ( Students with Netflix account and without Netflix account)
Group 1 is Students with Netflix and Group 2is students without netflix. So groups are independent to each other.
Independent Variable : Number of students with Netflix account and without Netflix account
Dependent Variable : Student GPA
One Pro of the design is that it is more feasible because it does not have the time and logistical constraints.Reactions of students are more likely to be genuine because it not an artificial research environment.
One Cons of design: Lack of randomnization.
