Question

You decide it would be fun to go to a magic show. The magician picks you out of the crowd and writes down 5 digits (0-9) at random without replacement. He writes them in the order picked.

What is the probability that he has written the first 5 digits of your address? Assume there are no repeats of digits in your address.

Give your answer as a fraction.

Linda draws a spade from a standard deck of 52 cards. She returns the spade to the deck, then draws a second card. Her second card is a diamond.

Are these events independent?

Determine the probability of drawing a spade and then a diamond with replacement.
Write your answer in decimal form, rounded to two decimal places as needed.

Explanation / Answer

Dear student you did not mention which one wanted to be solved because chegg policy allowed only one question at a time . I've solved your first one. Please repost the other one . Thank you!

The number of ways to pick an exact order of any 5 different numbers from 10 = 10P5 = 10! / 5!
= 10 * 9 * 8 * 7 * 6 = 30240 ways
i.e. the 1st one can be any of 10 numbers
The 2nd one can be any of 9 numbers
The 3rd one can be any of 8 numbers and so on

Thus the required probability is 1/30240
