How do you add and subtract fractions? Provide anexample & demonstrate the steps you would take to arrive at theanswer. What strategies would you use to help a studentstrugling with the concepts of adding & subtractingfractions? Describe the connections between rational numbers anddivision?Explanation / Answer
Say for example you have: 1/2 +1/3 -the first thing you would do is make ithave a common denominator (bottom number) - The LCM (least commonmultiple) of 2 and 3 is 6 so you want to multiply the top andbottom by whatever number gives you a 6 in the denominator - 1/2(3/3) + 1/3 (2/2) - thenyou have: -3/6 + 2/6 and then you can multiply across the numerator -3/6 +2/6 = (3+2)/6 = 5/6 answer is 5/6 I hope i was helpful.Related Questions
