college algebra 5th edition p. 25 #60 determine if the lines L1. and L2 passing through the pairs ofpoints are parallel, perpendicular, or neither. L1:(4,8), (-4,2) L2: (3,-5), (-1, 1/3) college algebra 5th edition p. 25 #60 determine if the lines L1. and L2 passing through the pairs ofpoints are parallel, perpendicular, or neither. L1:(4,8), (-4,2) L2: (3,-5), (-1, 1/3) determine if the lines L1. and L2 passing through the pairs ofpoints are parallel, perpendicular, or neither. L1:(4,8), (-4,2) L2: (3,-5), (-1, 1/3)Explanation / Answer
first find the slopes of both L1 and L2 L1's slope:(y2-y1)/(x2-x1) so..... (2-8)/(-4-4)= -6/-8= 3/4 L2's slope (using same formula)= (1/3-(-5))/(-1-3)=(16/3)/(-4)= -4/3 since 3/4 and -4/3 are opposite and reciprocal of one another, the slopes are perpendicular. Remember: perpendicular is when slopes are opposite (signs)and reciprocals, parallel is when slopes are equal hope it helps~!Related Questions
