A circle whose equation is [1/2 (x-6)]^2 + [1/2(y+1)]^2 = 1has its radius changed by a factor of 1/2 and translated two unitsright and three units up. Write the equation of the newcircle.
Explanation / Answer
[1/2 (x-6)]^2 + [1/2(y+1)]^2 = 1 (x-6)^2 + (y+1)^2 = 4 (x-6)^2 + (y-(-1))^2 = 2^2 current radius = 2 , center at 6, -1 since the center translated two units right(parallel to x axis )and three units up (parallel to y axis ), therefore the new centeris 6+2, -1+3 i.e. 8,2. the radius made half , so the new radius is2/2 = 1 so the new equation is (x-8)^2 + (y-2)^2 = 1
