Question
Please describe a real life situation that could be modeled by a function. Here is an example of what I am looking for:A function could, for example, indicate the amount of bone strength (y) in a living human body over time in years (x). It would not make sense to look at negative years, because the person would not yet be born. Likewise, looking beyond 100 years might not make sense, because many people do not live to be 100.
I need something along the lines of a certain number based on x and y, like the example above.
Explanation / Answer
Try thinking about a cause and effect relationship, any relationship where one aspect increases as another decreases, the y-value decreases as the x-value decreases, or the y value decreases as the x-value increases could be a function. For instance, as the age of a car increases, the value of the car usually decreases. Another example would be number of miles driven as gas prices go up either up or down, or how about comparing Black Friday sales to the unemployment rates? The amount of money on a paycheck usually depends on the number of hours worked, the amount of a cellphone bill could depend on the number of minutes talked.
