Question

Mr. Green, the Herbarium's owner, has come to you with a problem to solve. His business has grown so much lately that he is having trouble keeping enough stock for sale and figuring his monthly profit. Mr. Green wants you to set up a new inventory system for him. He wants you to start with his best sellers, the fruit trees. He needs help keeping up with his inventory, costs, revenue, and profits.

He wants you to start by organizing data about his fruit trees, and then he wants you to find his profit from the fruit trees for the previous month. He sells peach, plum, apricot, and fig trees in 1 quart, 1 gallon, 5 gallon, and 25 gallon sizes. For each size, the Herbarium pays the same price for all four kinds of fruit trees. One-quart trees cost $4.00, one-gallon trees cost $9.00, five-gallon trees cost $35.00, and 25-gallon trees cost $55.00. In turn, the Herbarium charges the same price for each kind of fruit tree. Mr. Green sells one-quart trees for $8.50, one-gallon trees for $20.00, five-gallon trees for $75.00, and 25-gallon trees for $120.00.

Mr. Green reports that at the beginning of last month he had 15 peach, 12 plum, 10 apricot, and 5 fig trees in the one-quart size. In the one-gallon size he had 20 peach, 22 plum, 15 apricot, and 11 fig trees. In the five-gallon size he had 17 peach, 19 plum, 22 apricot, and 15 fig trees. In the 25-gallon size he had 6 peach, 7 plum, 11 apricot, and 3 fig trees.

At the end of the month, Mr. Green had 0 peach, 5 plum, 0 apricot, and 1 fig trees left in the one-quart size. In the one-gallon size he had 0 peach, 0 plum, 3 apricot, and 11 fig trees left. In the five-gallon size he had 0 peach, 9 plum, 0 apricot, and 11 fig trees left. In the 25-gallon size he had 0 peach, 4 plum, 8 apricot, and 2 fig trees left.

1. Create a matrix for the inventory at the beginning of the month and a matrix for the closing inventory at the end of the month. Type the row and column labels in the top row and left most column respectively.
