Question
Let p: Pam can go to the movies; q: Elaine can drive the car. Translate the following statement into verbal form:~ q ---> p
Answer
a. Pam can go to the movies because Elaine can drive the car.
b. Neither Pam can go to the movies nor can Elaine drive the car.
c. Pam can go to the movies unless Elaine cannot drive the car.
d. Either Pam can go to the movies or Elaine can drive the car.
Explanation / Answer
~ is negation, therefore ~q = elaine cannot drive the car p = pam can go to the movies. So ~q -> p = Answer C Although the parts of the sentence are swapped from the statement, it is correct. They are switched only to make the sentence more "natural" sounding. Its very easy to get hung up on this (happens to me all the time) Enjoy! PS -> This technically isn't algebra, its Discrete Mathmatics, in the future I'd list it under "other math". If this is in your actual algebra class, godspeed ;)
