Question

Write a system of equations for each problem. Please have picture if can and steps on how you each piece.

1) Angus Macguyver is building bombs and missiles out of chewing gum and duct tape. Each bomb he builds requires 3 sticks of chewing gum and 2 feet of duct tape. Each missile he builds requires 2 sticks of gum and 3 feet of duct tape. He has 28 sticks of gum and 72 feet of duct tape. If each bomb can disable 3 enemies while each missile can disable 4, how many bombs and missiles should he construct to disable as many enemies as possible?

** Lost on what to do with the 28 and 72 and the enemies part....

2) An airplane has a carrying capacity of 3000 cubic ft and weight limit of 2,500,000 pounds. It's to be stocked with containers of food and water. Each food container takes 1 cubic foot of space and weights 2 pounds. Each water container takes up 0.5 cubic ft of water and weights 8 pounds. Further, there must be more containers of water than containers of food. Each container of food helps 3 people and each container of water helps 2 people. How many of each kind of container should be put on the plane to help as many people as possible?

** Again, I just need to set up the system of equations. I do not need to go through and solve...

Explanation / Answer

let number of bombs = x

missiles = y

3x + 2y <= 28

2x + 3y <= 72

x >= 0

y >= 0

objective function is maximize

P = 3x + 4y

2) let food container be x

water container = y

x + 0.5 y <= 3000

2x + 8y <= 2500000

x >= 0

y >= 0

objective function maximize

P = 3x + 2y
