On the first day I was billed $110 for 4 hours of work by the main carpenter and for 6 hours of work by the apprentice. On the second day I was billed $48 for 2 hours of work by the main carpenter and for 2 hours of work by the apprentice. What I would like to know is how much I was being charged per hour for each person separately. Let X be the hourly rate for the Carpenter and Y be the hourly rate for the Apprentice. Find X and Y.

4X + 6Y = 110

2X + 2Y = 48

eq (2) multiplied by 2 and subtracted from eq (1)
