Question

The augmented matrix of a linear system has been reduced by row operations to the form shown. Continue operations and describe the solution set of the original system. There are two of them. The second one I believe is an empty solution set due to row 3 being 0,0,0,-2.
The augmented matrix of a linear system has been reduced by row operations to the form shown Continue the appropriate row operations and describe the solution set of the original system. 16 3-3 01-1 2 Select the correct choice below and, if necessary, fill in the answer boxes to complete your choice A. The solution set has exactly one element (-1 ) O B. C. (Type integers or simplified fractions.) The solution set has infintely many elements. The solution set is empty.

Explanation / Answer

Solution:

For both of the given questions there will be no solution.

1) In first question given reduced augmented matrix of a linear system contains (0,0,0,3) in second rowbfrom which it can be interpreted

0*x+ 0*y+ 0*z = 3 ( which cannot be possible)

Hence the solution set is empty.

2) Similarly in second question the reduced augmented matrix contains (0,0,0,-2) in row 3 which means

0*x + 0*y + 0*z = -2 (which cannot be possible)

Hence, the solution set is empty.
