Question

(a) Which is the better buy in value: a 15.3 ounces box of cereal for $3.37 or a 24-ounce box of cereal for $4.59? (b) A store advertised that it will take 150% off from price of all merchandise. What is the price of the merchandise? (c) A parking garage charges $2.50 to spend for the first hour and $0.50 for each additional hour. If a customer gave the parking attendant $20.00 for parking from 10 Am to 3 Pm. How much money did the garage charge? Construct a truth table for the statement p v ~(c Lambda r) Convert 18 inches to ounces.

Explanation / Answer

(a)
Option 1: 1 ounce price is 3.37/15.3 = $0.2203
Option 2: 1 ounce price is 4.59/24 = $0.1913
As we are paying less for each ounce in option 2, it is the better buy in value.

(b)
If 150% is taken off from price of all merchandise then the price will become negative.

For example, if on an item of $100, 150% is $150, if this is given as discount price will become 100 - 150 = -$50.
This looks like an unreal scenario.

(c)
there are 5 hours from 10 am to 3 pm
For first hour 2.5 and for remaining 4 hours 4*0.5 = 2

Hence total amount the garage will charge is 2.5 + 2 = $4.5

1 feet = 19.8/1000 = 0.0198 lbs
1 feet = 12 in
18 in = 1.5 feet

18 in = 1.5*0.0198 = 0.0297 lbs

1 lb = 16 ounces
18 in = 0.0297 lbs = 0.0297 * 16 = 0.4752 ounces
