Question:
The recommended number of hours a student should spend studying for a college course is two hours per credit hour. Test the claim that the average amount of time spent studying for a three credit hour math course is less than recommended the 6 hours per week.
Can anyone help me with step by step tutorial please? I am struggling with this hypothesis question and I keep coming up with different answers. Thanks

Explanation / Answer
Find the average and sd of the given grouped data.
[(1*4)+(10*7)+...+(1*16)]/25=9.28
Variance=Summation (f x^2/n)-(xbar)^2
={(1*4^2)+(10*7^2)+...+(1*16^2)/25}-9.28=2338
SD=sqrt 2338=48.35
H0: mu=6
H1:mu<6
Use z statistic to compute the test statistic sing the computed value.
Z=(Xi-Xbar)/sd=(9.28-6)/48.35=0.07
The z critical value at alpha=0.05 (one-tailed) is -1.65.
The test statistic do not fall in critical region. Therefore, fail to reject null hypothesis. There i snot sufficient sample evidence to conclude that avergae amount of time spent for a three credit hour math course i sless than recommended 6 hour sper week.
