Use integers or fractions for any numbers in the expression.) equation of the line is Enter your answer in the answer box. ID 747 PM 4/5/2018Explanation / Answer
The slope –intercept form of the equation of a line is y = mx+c, where m is the slope and c is the y-intercept. Here, the given line is parallel to the line –x+8y = 24 or, 8y = x+24 or, y = (1/8)x +3. Thus, the slope of the given line is m = 1/8. On substituting m = 1/8 in its equation, it changes to y = (x/8) +c. Further, the given line passes through the point (-8,-8) so, on substituting x = -8 and y = -8 in its equation, we get -8 = -8/8 +c or, -8 = -1+c so that c = -8+1 = -7.
Thus, the equation of the given line is y = x/8-7.
