Question

Even (or perhaps especially) to the most skilled mathematicians, explaining math to those outside of the field can be incredibly challenging, yet equally valuable. Write a paragraph or two in response to the following prompt: Explain to a non-math friend, in everyday language, what linear algebra is about. Don't use terms that a non-math person won't know, such as matrix, vector, function, unless you also explain what those words mean. You don't have to explain everything we've learned. Just try to capture some big ideas. Saying, "Linear algebra is crazy and T don't really gel, it, " is not satisfactory. Remember: you are explaining this to a friend, not to your teacher. Alternate Option: Explain to a child what linear algebra is about.

Explanation / Answer

You can explain linear algebra in this way:

Start with a simple problem to attract that friend. Like Rabbits and chicken are in cage .there are 33 heads counted , but 100 feet in total. Then how many rabbit and chicken in the cage.

Solving this type of problem by equation , make your friend to be interesting.

Algebra is about solving puzzles , like + 2 = 5 . then will be 3.In algebra we used to represent numbers or quantities known as literals. Computer programming involves algebra to get results that we want.

In everyday activities , we need to do calculation of our expenses. Hence if you bought 10 green bags having price of $50 and 15 black bags having same price of $15. There was skim of $1 cash back per bag purchase. You also bought one silver bag but forget its price. But you remember total amount you paid that was $1115 .

In this situation ,knowledge of algebra will help you . Showing equation formation to that friend , will build his/her interest.

In such way you can tell a non math person about linear algebra for daily life.
