Question
In 2007, the U.S. Army had contracts with 1,550 civilian mental health care providers. In response to a significant increase in the cases of post-traumatic stress and other behavioral health issues, the army began contracting more providers at the rate of 375 per year. Write a linear equation describing the number of civilian mental health care providers. Then use your equation to estimate the number of providers in 2010, and estimate how long it would have takein the number of providers to double from 2007.Explanation / Answer
According to the given condition the linear equation would be :
x= 1550 + 375n
Where x is the number of civillian mental health care providers.
And n ks the number of years from 2007.
If we need to find number of providers in 2010 , then
n = (2010-2007)= 3
So,
x = 1550 +375(3) = 2675 .
For next question , if number of providers to double from 2007 we have :
x= 1550×2= 3100
we need to find n.
So, 3000= 1500+375n
375n = 1500
n = 1500/375 =4
Hence in 2011 (2007+4years)
