Discrete Math; See below explanations would help thanks!

(a) Let A = {(3). {3.(3), (3). Find the cardinality of A b) Let S-{'X}. List all the elements of the power set P(S (c) Let C = {y,a, 5). Find the cardinality of the Cartesian product C × C (d) Consider the universal set U-{1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8,9), and H {1. 3.4), K (2, 3, 4, 9), G = { 1,5, 8, 9). List the elements in the set K U (e) In a survey, 28 students indicated they like American food, 15 students indicated they like Asian food, and 10 students like both. At least how many students were interviewed in the survey?

Explanation / Answer

a) Cardinality of A is 3 since 3 elements inside the set.

b) Elements in Powers set = P(s)= {(1),(x),(1,x),(NULL)}

c) No of elements in C=3

No of elements in C*C=3*3= 9

So Cardinality is 9

d) H' = {2,5,6,7,8,9}

K = {2,3,4,9}

G' = {2,3,4,5,6,7}

H'UKUG' = {2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9}

e) n(A) = 28

n(B)= 15

n(A^B)= 10

No of students who were atleast interviwed = n(AUB)

n(AUB)= n(A)+n(B)-n(A^B)

= 28+15-10

= 33
