Question
Hi. I apologize for not making my question very clear. I have a question about problems 11 & 14 in the Basic Skills and Concepts section of Essentials of Statistics 4th Edition in chapter 8.6 I can't use Excel in my class, so would it be possible to have someone show me how to find the p-value for those problems either by hand or on my Ti-84? Thanks again.
Problem #11
Cigarette Tar A simple random sample of 25 filtered 100 mm digarettes is obtained, and the tar content of each cigarette is measured. The sample has a standard deviation of 3.7 mg (based on Data Set 4 in Appendix B). Use a 0.05 significance level to test the claim that the tar content of filtered 100 mm cigarettes has a standard deviation different from 3.2 mg, shich is the standard deviation for unfiltered king size cigarettes.
Directions for the problem:
Testing Claims About Variation. Test the given claim. Assume that a simple rendom sample is selected from a normally distributed population. Use either the P-value method or the traditional method fo testing hypothesis.
I undertstand how to get the chi square of 32.086, but am confused about how to get the p-value of 0.2498
I appreciate your help.
Explanation / Answer
After obtaining Chi square data = 32.086 ,
p-value = Prob(Chi2 > Chi2Data | H0)
