2. Explain what is wrong with the following statements. Use complete sentences.
a. If there is a 60% chance of rain on Saturday and a 70% chance of rain on Sunday, then there is a 130% chance of rain over the weekend.
b. The probability that a baseball player hits a home run is greater than the probability that he gets a successful hit.
4. A box contains four black pieces of cloth, two striped pieces, and six dotted pieces. A piece is selected randomly and then placed back in the box. A second piece is selected randomly. What is the probability that:
a. Both pieces are dotted
b. The first piece is black and the second piece is dotted c. One piece is black and one piece is striped?

2) A) THE PROBABILITY THAT IT WILL RAIN ON SATURDAY = 0.6
THE PROBABILITY THAT IT WILL RAIN OVER SUNDAY = 0.7
THEREFORE THE PROBABILITY THAT IT WILL RAIN OVER WEEKEND = 0.6*0.7 = 0.42
HENCE IT CANNOT BE 130% AS GIVEN
B) IN BASEBALL A SUCCESSFUL HIT MEANS THAT A RUN IS SCORED WHILE HIT FOR HOMERUN IS A SUBSET OF SUCCESSFUL HIT THEREFORE WE HAVE A PROBABILITY OF A SUBSET HIGHER THEN A SET, HENCE THE ABOVE STATEMENT IS WRONG.
