Question

If i, j, k represent unit vectors (vectors whose magnitude is 1) along x. y and z axis respectively Assume E field is in the + i direction and a test charge + q_0 is moving along + i from point A to point b then is V_B-V_A is or = 0 [draw a line and show the location of A and b and then write your answer giving proper explanation] E along i, test charge + q_0 moving along + i potential decreases from A to B Now repeat this question tor all other possible 7 cases such as If q_0 is a - charge or E is a- field etc or E is along + i but + q_0 moving along -i (similarly other situations). In each case find V_B-V_A clearly showing the location of A and B with proper explanation)

Explanation / Answer

Positive charge moves from higher to lower potential and negative charge moves from lower to higer potential.

That is why positive charge moves along the electric field direction and negtaive charge moves opposite to the field direction.

Potential only depends on the field direction. If field is along +i and and charge is moving along +i then potential always decreases in that direction. If field is along +i and charge is moving in -i direction the potential inceases along the direction of motion of charge. It does not matter which charge is it.
