Question
A football player is practicing his place-kicking. The ball is initially on the ground 24.0m from the base of a nearby building which is 7.0 m tall. The ball is kicked with an initial velocity in a direction 53.0 degree above the horizontal. The ball takes 2.20s to reach point P directly above the grunt of the building. Find the initial x component of the ball's velocity as it was kicked. Find the distance h by which the ball clears the front of the building. y-y_0 = (V_0 sin theta) t - 1/2 8t^2Explanation / Answer
a) vcos heta x time = distance = 24
time =2.2 secs
vcos(53)x2.2 = 24
vx = v cos(53) = 24/2.2 = 10.9 m/sec
b) v=10.9/cos(53) = 18.12 m/sec
displacement = vsin(53)t - (.5)gt^2 = 8.12m
So, clearing = 8.12-7 =1.12 m
