Question
You are performing crosses in your experimental animal and find the following:
A. How many genes are involved?
B. What are the dominance patterns for the alleles?
C. Suppose when the yellow progeny from cross 1 was mated to the yellow progeny of cross 2, the phenotypic ratio of the progeny was 2 yellow:1 rust. What were the genotypes of the parents?
Cross Phenotypic ratio of progeny 1) yellow female x brown male 2 brown: 1 yellow 2) yellow female x brown male 2 brown: 1 yellow: 1 rust female x rust male brown: I yellow 1 brown: 1 vellowExplanation / Answer
A) Two genes are involved. The genes are Y which codes for yellow color and B which codes for brown color. The absence of both the Y and B genes will lead to the production of rust color.
B) Brown (B gene) is dominant over yellow (Y gene). The absence of both B and Y (ie), "(by) will lead to rust color.
C) When the yellow progeny from cross 1 was mated to the yellow progeny of cross 2, the phenotypic ratio of the progeny was 2 yellow:1 rust. Since rust color is formed and thereis no ocurrence of brown color, the genotype of the parents must be Yb.
