Explanation / Answer

GLYCOLYSIS: No CO2 yield during glycolysis. 2 NADH is produced. 3ATP per NADH is produced. no FADH is yield during glycolsis. 2ATP is produced from substrate level phosphorylation.

1 NADH after passing through eletron carrier results in 3 ATP.

2 NADH = 6ATP.

So, Max. ATP yield: 6+2= 8

PYRUVATE OXIDATION: 2 molecule of Co2 is produced from each pyruvate. 2 NADH yield from pyruvate oxidation. 3 ATP per NADH is generated. No FADH yield. No ATP from substrate level phosphorylation as it occurs in cytoplasm during glycolysi and in mitochondria during TCA cycle.

1 NADH after passing through electron carrier results in 3 ATP production. So Max. ATP yield: 6 i.e (2NADH results in 6ATP).

TCA CYCLE: 4 molecules of CO2 released during TCA cycle. 6NADH is produced (3 from each cycle). 3ATP generated per NADH. 2 FADH2 is produced during the TCA cycle. 2 ATP is produced per FADH2. 2ATP is generated from substrate level phosphorylation.

1 NADH after passing through electron carrier results in 3 ATP and 1 FADH2 rsults in 2 ATP.

6NADH = 18 ATP and 2FADH2 = 4 ATP

So Max. ATP yiled during TCA cycle: 18+4+2= 24.
