assage of Blood Through the Heart . Recall, muscle cells are closely joined which allows muscle cells close communication. By sending electrical signals between cells, both atria and then both ventricles contract simultaneously. The blood flows as outlined below (Slide 17) . Inferior and Superior vena cava (1) cary oxygen-poor blood from body veins into the right atrium .(2) Right atrium contracts sends blood through the atrioventricular valve (the tricuspid valve) to the right ventricle . Right ventricle (3) contracts, pumping blood through pulmonary semilunar blood and divides into valve into Pulmonary trunk which carries oxygen poor pulmonary arteries which (4) go the the lungs where arteries become very thin o a capillres within lungs alowgas exchange. O, enters blood and CO, is excreted from blood (diffusion) Then pulmonary veins (5) bring oxvaen-rich blood from the lungs back the left atrium (6) which contracts and sends oxygen-rich blood to left ventricle throughe the atrioventricular valve (bicuspid valve) . Left ventricle (7), large and muscular, contracts sending oxygen-rich blood through aortic semilunar valve into the aorta and from aorta blood is sent to the rest of the body (8) Large arteries, smaller arteries, arterioles supple tissue capillaries. Tissue w capillaries drain into increasingly larger veins. Veins drain into the superior and inferior vena cava, cycle starts again (1)

Explanation / Answer

Cardiovascular system consist of 2 systems of circulation.

1. Pulmonary circulation

2. Systemic circulation

In pulmonary circulation the oxygenated blood is pumped from left ventricle via aorta with the help of aortic semi lunar valve by the action of ventricular muscle contraction.

The aorta carries oxygenated blood to different parts of body with the help of arteries arterioles cappileries to tissues.

From tissue the used blood or deoxygenated blood is send back to heart via venules veins and reached superior and inferior venacavae (from upper part of body and lower part respectively). The venacavae opens to right atrium and it further transported to right ventricle by atrial muscle contraction with the help of tricuspid valve or atrioventricular valve(right)

Pulmonary circulation: The deoxugenated blood is then transfered to lungs via pulmonary trunk with the help of pumonary semilunar valve due to right ventricular contraction. The trunk divides to pulmonary artery then pulmonary capillary and the deoxygenated get oxugenated by gase exchange by allowinl the entering of oxygen and excreting carbion dioxide.

Then it transferd to right atrium via pulmonary vein which carries oxygenated blood. From there it transfered to left ventricle via bicuspid or mitral valve (left atrio ventricular valve)
