Q.2. Study the following table of Soybean different maturity groups and their yield in the U.S.A Maturity group Yield (bu./Acre) Length of the veive ngth of the Reproductive period (seed filling period) in days 35 35 period in days 45 46 35 49 Maturity group 5 have longer vegetative growth period (45 days), however, both maturity groups have the same seed yield! 1. Explain why both soybean maturity groups have similar yield? 10 Points 2. Does the length of the vegetative growth period affected plant yield formation? Yes, or No, Explain your answer. 10 Points

Explanation / Answer

According to the information and the tabulated data, the yield of two varities of soybean having different vegetative growth periods have similar yield in the end. In order to understand the possible reason behind it, it is necessary to understand that the total yield of the plant product is independent of the length of its vegetative period and is highly dependent upon its reproductive phase. This is because more healthy is the reproductive phase of the plant, more likely is the enhancement in its total yield. Hence, it can be concluded here that the two soybean maturity groups are very likely to have similar yields owing to their similar trends of reproductive periods, patterns and orientations.

Hence, inspite of the fact that the two varities are different and considering that all other abiotic factors are kept similar in both conditions, the yield obtained in both cases is noticed to be similar.
