Answers
5) c) 4
Each Hexose gets a D/L designation on the 5th Carbon, hence the 2nd hexose of the disaccaride (sugar on the right) will get a D/L designation on Carbon numbered as 4.
7) D) Beta(1-1)
Alpa linkage is formed when the O of the glycosidic linkage is below the hexose ring, while Beta is when O is above the plane. Since this is below the plane it will be Beta. and by numbering each of the rings we'll get Beta (1-->1)
8) e) None of these
Non-reducing sugars do not have an OH group attached to the anomeric carbon so they cannot reduce other compounds. Both the anomeric carbons number 3 and 5 do not have a free OH group attached to it (involved in forming the linkage) none of the catrbons can act as reducing sugars.
