Question
Of 1,000 respondents aged 24 to 35, 46% reported that they preferred to "look for a job in a place where I would like to live" rather than "look for the best job I can I find, the place where I live is secondary." At the 0.01 level of significance, is there evidence that the proportion of all young jobseekers aged 24 to 35 who preferred to I "look for a job in a place where 1 would like to live" rather than "look for the best job I can find, the place where I live is secondary" is different from 43%? State the null and alternative hypotheses.Explanation / Answer
Ho: Mu = .43
Ha: Mu!=.43
n=100
pcap = .46
p = .43
Z = (.46-.43)/(sqrt(.43*.57/100))= .605
This Z=.605 corresponds to a .7422 in cumualtive probability Z table. which means p value is 1-.7422 = .2578 on each side of tail. Now, p critical value = .01/2 ( becuase we are to divide p value in each tail)
Since .2578>>.01/2, we say that we aren't rejecting null hypothesis.
So, Ho: Mu = .43
