Question
* I have computed the numbers on the left down corner using R, but I have some trouble answering and understanding the question.
On Smartsite under Resources you will nd a dataset IQ.txt (or IQ.csv). It has two columns, the rst of which denotes what major a student is from (A, B, or C). The second is the IQ measured by the Stanford–Binet Intelligence Scales. The goal is to determine if this IQ measure diers between majors.
(g) What is the largest signicant dierence in averages suggested by all of the condence intervals? (This should be one number).

I got -6.7035 as largest difference and -18.0281 as smallest diffference, but those are wrong answers. Please help!!!

You had calculated three 95% confidence intervals, as
Lower Upper
-5.69471 5.56138
-18.02805 -6.77195
-17.96138 -6.70529
dierence in averages as follows:
I. 5.56138 - (-5.69471) = 5.56138 + 5.69471 = 11.25609
II. -6.77195 - ( -18.02805) = -6.77195 + 18.02805 = 11.2561
III. -6.70529 - (-17.96138) = -6.70529 + 17.96138 = 11.25609
Here all the differences of given three confidence intervals are near about same. So
(g) The largest signicant dierence in averages suggested by all of the condence intervals: 11.2561
(h) The smallest signicant dierence in averages suggested by all of the condence intervals: 11.2561
Here both largest and smallest differences are same
