Question
Answer the following questions using the following ten observations: 69, 64, 69, 64, 67, 70, 66, 71, 74, 68
b) Please construct a 90% confidence interval for the unknown population mean.
c) The data from twenty years ago shows that the average population height was 64’’ and someone suggests that the current average population height should be about the same. You have a doubt on this suggestion since the nutrition intakes today are better than twenty years ago. Please write your hypotheses and conduct your test. What do you find if the rejection is chosen at 5% and 10%, respectively?
d) Suppose you are told that the population variance is 15.4, please construct a 90% confidence interval for the unknown population mean.
Explanation / Answer
b. here t value is 1.833
Mean=68.2 and sd=3.12
So E=t*sd/sqrt(n)=1.81
So CI=68.2+/-1.81=(66.39,70.01)
c. H0:mu=64 vs H1:mu not equal to 64
t=xbar-mu/(sd/sqrt(n))=4.26
p value at 5% The P-Value is 2E-05.
P value is same for 10% also so we reject the null hypothesis.
d. Here sd=sqrt(15.4)
So E=2.27
CI=68.2+/-2.27
