Question
The following data are average yields in bushels per acre on four plots of land for four different varieties of can. Yield (bushels per acre) is the response variable and corn variety is the treatment factor with four levels. Use these data for Questions on this task Calculate the treatment sample means. Consider the AOV test of hypothesis for treatments Ho:mu1 = mu2=mu3 = mu4 Ha: Not all the gi are equal, a = 0.05 Specify the critical region. Give the MS Factor and MS Error. Calculate the test statistic F, find the P-value, and make a decision about HoExplanation / Answer
Here we have to test the hypothesis that,
H0 : mu1 = mu2 = mu3 = mu4
H1 : Atleast one of the mean is differ than 0.
where mu1, mu2, mu3 and mu4 are four population means of yields.
Assume alpha = level of significance = 0.05
Here we have to test four means so we use one way ANOVA.
This we can done in EXCEL.
steps :
ENTER data into EXCEL sheet --> Data --> Data Analysis --> Anova : Single Factor --> ok --> Input Range : select all the data --> Grouped by : columns --> Alpha : 0.05 --> Output Range : select one empty cell --> ok
Then we get the output as :
F = 0.034658
P-value = 0.990989
MSfactor = 1.989142
MSerror = 57.39273
Here P-value > alpha
Fail to reject H0 at 5% level of significance.
Conclusion : There is sufficient evidence to say that the four population means are equal.
