Question

Starbucks needs to decide how many muffins and how many croissants to produce each day. The profit per muffin is $2 and the profit per croissant is $1.5. On an average, each muffin takes 3 minutes of labor time and 3 minutes of oven time (of course they are produced in batches. For simplification, I have given you the time per piece). Croissants take 10 minutes of labor time and 1 minute of oven time. Starbucks can have its labor dedicated for a maximum of 2 hours every day. The oven time is limited to 6 hours during the night.

Let m be the number of muffins and c be the number of croissants produced in a day. The correct algebraic form for the constraint on labor time available is:

A. 3m + 10c 120
B. 3m + 10c 2
C. 10m + 3c 120
D. 30+3c 2

Please explain why. Thank you!

Explanation / Answer

3m+10c<=120

Option A

Each muffin will take 3 minutes of labor time therefore m number of muffins will take 3m minutes of labor time,

And Each croissant will tahe 10 min of labor time, therefore c number of croissants will take 10c min of labor time

And Labour available for 2 hour ie.120minutes

therefore constraint for labor ime will be 3m+10c<= 120
