Which kind of sampling plan was used in each of the following situations? Would the plan result in an unbiased sample?

a. Simple Random Sampling

b. Systematic Sampling

c. Cluster Sampling

d. Stratified Sampling

e. Convenience Sampling

Explanation / Answer

In a simple random sampling procedure n number of objects were selected from the population at random and then the test was performed on them.

In cluster sampling N objects of the population are divided into k clusters with N¡ objects that are physically close to each other. From each of these k clusters n¡ objects are selected at random so that n1+n2+....+nk=n. The test is then performed on these n objects.

The stratified random sampling is similar to cluster sampling.

Here the groups are formed based on homogeneity of the characters of the objects.

In the said case the unbiased sampling would be simple random sampling
