Question

THANK YOU

Imagine that you attempted to recreate Mendel's work with garden peas. You began by crossing true breeding violet-flowered, tall plants with white-flowered dwarf plants. After self-crossing the F1 generation, you obtain the following phenotypes in the F2 generation 80 tall, violet flowers 36 tall, white flowers 39 dwarf, violet flowers 5 dwarf, white flowers Probabity P value 090 020 020 0001 CA58 237 46A 2.20 336 778 9/49 924 2052 7 217 283 1407 1848 2432 273 SS3 336 2009 Part E Use a chi-square analysis to test the hypothesis that the F2 data for stem length (tall:dwarf) is consistent with Mendel's law of segregation. Calculate the chi square value. Express your answer to two decimal points (example: 100.00). Submit My Answers Give Up Incorrect; Try Again; 4 attempts remaining

Explanation / Answer

In the question we have four alleles: tall (p), dwarf (q), violet ( r) and white (d). according Hardy Weinberg law, p+q+r+d = 1; and according the Mendel’s law of segregation these would have equally 0.25 frequencies.

Find chi square value by using following formula:

X2 for single allele = (Allelic progenies – Expected progenies)2 / Total progenies

For example:

X2 for tall allele (p) =

Allelic progenies are 80+36 = 116,

Expected progenies =Frequency x Population = 0.25x 160 = 40

Therefore X2 value for allele p = (116-40)2/40 = (76)2 / 40 = 144.4

Then do the rest according the following example:

Chi square (X2) test = (observed- expected)2 /expected = (O-E)2/ E
