Question

This Test: 21 pts possible This Question: 1 pt 8 of 21 (0 complete) v An incoming MBA student took placement exams in economics and mathematics. In economics, she scored 82 and in math 88. The overall results on the economics exam had a mean of 73 and a standard deviation of 6, while the mean math score was 67, with a standard deviation of 10. On which exam did she do better compared with the other students? Since she scored standard deviations the mean in economics and standard deviations Y the mean in mathematics, she did better on the (Round to two decimal places as needed.) mathematics

Explanation / Answer

Here mean of economics is 82 and that of maths is 88.

Now for economics converting x to z we get z=82-73/6=1.5

and for maths converting x to z we get z=88-67/10=2.1

We can see that z score of maths is better than that of economics

Since she scored 1.5 standard deviation above mean in economics and 2.1 standard deviation and above mean in maths, she did better on the maths exam
