Question
Here are the results of a multivariate regression analyses. The respondents' overall level of happiness and their feelings of being connected to their community were measured with different indices that each had scales ranging from 1 to 10. Answer the following questions based on this output: a. What do we learn from Model 1 regarding the impact of connectedness to community on overall happiness? b. What happens when we control for years of education in Model 2? c. Interpret the slope coefficient for years of education in Model 2. (Be specific!)Explanation / Answer
a)
The effect of feels connected to community on the over all happiness is positively correlated. That is as the feels connected to community increase by one scale, there is an increase of 0.7 units in the overall happiness and the correlation is statistically significant.
b)
When the years of education was included in the model, the effect of feels connected to community reduces from 0.7 to 0.3. But still, the relationship is significant with the p-value of <0.01.
c)
Slope coefficient of years of education is 0.02. Hence, as the years of education increases there is an increase of 0.02 units the overall happiness score. Although the effect is low, the relationship is statisticaly significant.
