A survey was carried out to gather information about people’s opinions about capital punishment on a 5 point scale (1 = strongly disagree; 2= disagree; 3 = neither agree nor disagree; 4 = agree; 5 = strongly agree). Demographic characteristics about the respondents were also collected in the survey. The survey results are contained above.
(a) Use the Pivot Table in Excel to cross tabulate Education and Opinion. (Show your workings as appropriate.)
(b) Use the Pivot Table to calculate the average opinion of the male and female respondents (Show your workings as appropriate) and comment in one sentence the relationship between Gender and Opinion?
(You just need to compare the two averages and comment on whether they’re same or different. This question is more about giving you the opportunity to learn the functionality of Pivot Table.)
(c) Since Age and Opinion are both quantitative variables, we can construct a scatter plot to depict their relationship. Create a scatter plot to display the relationship between Age and Opinion and use Excel to compute their correlation coefficient. Comment on the strength of their relationship.

Important notes:
Excel can compute correlation coefficients for two or more quantitative variables. But all the variables must be contiguous (i.e., next to each other). Otherwise we will get an error message. So if the data are not contiguous, we have to use COPY and PASTE functions to place the variables next to each other.
The numbers in the diagonal of the correlation matrix are always 1. (Do you know why?)
