Each month the difference D, in pounds, between his current weight at time t (in months) and his target weight decreases by 10%. (a) Make an exponential model of D versus the time t in months since the diet began. D- (b) How long will it take for his weight to reach 210 pounds? Explanation / Answer

standard expoenntial function is

D = Do ( 1 - r )^t

so, we can write the function as

a) D = 260 ( 1 - .10 )^t

D = 260 ( .90)^t

b) plugging D = 210

210 = 260 ( 0.90)^t

210/260 = .90 ^t

t = 2.03

hence, it takes 2.03 months to reach 210 pounds
