The following data was gathered through a preliminary study consisting of 10 observations at a non-profit organization that specializes in allowing kids to earn a bike by helping out around the shop. FYB Main Shop Work Sampling Working on a Bike Locating a Part Checking a Part Asking Questions Idle Time 29.33%| 35.11% 4.89% 13.33% 17.33% a. In one 30-hour work week, how much time is wasted? (Idle Time) b. The average student finishes two bikes per day, as suming a 6 hour work day how long does it take to work on a bike? How many additional observations are needed for a 99% confidence interval and +-5% accuracy? c. Assuming a 90% confidence interval determine the accuracy for the amount of observations made. d.

Explanation / Answer

(a) TOTAL WORKING HOUR WASTED IN A WEEK = 30 HRS * 29.33 % = 8.799 HRS = 8.8 HOURS

(b) TOTAL WORKING HOUR ON A BIKE PER DAY = 6 * 35.11 % = 2.1066 HOURS FOR TWO BIKE

HENCE PER BIKE NUMBER OF HOURS PER DAY = 2.1066 / 2 = 1.0533 HOURS

(c) p = 0.95 , q = .05 , permissible error = 5 % = 0.05

HENCE ADDITIONAL OBSERVATION NEEDED FOR 99% CONFIDENCE `n` = ( p q z2 ) / P.E

={ 0.95 * 0.05 * (2.58)2} / 0.05

= 126.472 = 127

HENCE ADDITIONAL NEEDED = 127 - 10 = 117

(d) 90% confidence interval make sure about sample observation that it is 90% accurate to population mean and chances of mistake is 10%
