In the second drawer there are 15 yellow socks and 45 blue socks. In another drawer there are 10 yellow socks and 60 blue socks. Consider the following scenarios a) You take two random socks from the first drawer and they match. What is their most likely color? c) You take one random sock from the first drawer, one random sock from the second drawer and they match. What is their most likely color?

Explanation / Answer

a) probabilty that both are yellow =(30/50)*(29/49)=0.355

probabilty that both are blue =(20/50)*(19/49)=0.155

hence most likely is yellow

b)

probabilty that both are yellow =(15/60)*(14/59)=0.059

probabilty that both are blue =(45/60)*(44/59)=0.559

hence blue is more likely

c)

probabilty that both are yellow =(30/50)*(15/60)=0.15

probabilty that both are blue ==(20/50)*(45/60) =0.3

hence blue is more likely
