1.      Two measurements of head circumference were made on each student in Stat 200.  We want to know if we get, on the average, the same value on the second measurement as we do on the first. Given below are some of the 700 student measurements.

3.      From time-to-time the National Institutes of Health (NIH) examine age and total cholesterol level (TCL) among males and females.  Here are the ages and TCL's of 10 adult males:

4.      The American Heart Association claims in nutrition brochures that the average total cholesterol among women in the age group 55-64 is 208.  A nutritionist who believes the total cholesterol is higher than this obtained the total cholesterol levels from 25 women and found that the average was 223, with a standard deviation of 30.  Does this data contradict the American Heart Association’s claim (and support the nutritionists belief)?              

5.      A physiologist and a psychologist were talking about strange facts in people.  The physiologist said that there is a substantial difference between males and females on which finger is longest in people: the ring or the index finger.  The psychologist retorted that this was stupid--there couldn’t be any sizable difference between males and females.  So they decided to do a statistical analysis on some data collected in Stat 250 classes in the 1990s.  Here is the data they obtained:
