Homeopathic treatment of wounds. Homeopathy seeks to stimulate the body\'s abili

Question

Homeopathic treatment of wounds. Homeopathy seeks to stimulate the body's ability to heal itself by giving very small doses of highly diluted and generally harmful substances. The dilution can be so high that no molecules of the healing substance remain in any traceable amount. (Homeopathy proposes that the substance leaves an imprint called the "memory of water.") The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) warns that, except for a few studies, there is little evidence to support homeopathy as an effective treatment for any specific condition. In one such study, researchers sutured a deep muscular incision that they had made in anaesthetized rats and then randomly assigned the rats to 5 treatments: a placebo (sugar water) and two homeopathic remedies (Arnica montana and Staphisagria) administered at two levels of dilution. The treatments were injected daily into the rats' stomachs via a gastric tube, and the wounds v/ere examined daily to determine the time (in days) until complete healing of the wound. Use the four-step process to guide your discussion. a) What are the null and alternative hypotheses for this test? Null Hypothesis Alternative Hypothesis b) Is there significant evidence that healing time depends on the treatment received? Give p-value. Explanation c) If the data is appropriate for ANOVA, please state why or what test proves so. Explanation

Explanation / Answer

Please find below minitab output which contains null and alternative hypothesis and rest all answers which you required.

One-way ANOVA: Placebo, Amica low, Amica High, Shaphisagrio low, Shaphisagrio high

Method

Null hypothesis All means are equal
Alternative hypothesis At least one mean is different

Significance level = 0.05

Equal variances were assumed for the analysis.

Factor Information

Factor Levels Values
Factor 5 Placebo, Amica low, Amica High, Shaphisagrio low, Shaphisagrio high

Analysis of Variance

Factor 4 420.53 105.133 332.50 0.000
Error 70 22.13 0.316
Total 74 442.67

Model Summary

S R-sq R-sq(adj) R-sq(pred)

Means

Factor N Mean StDev 95% CI
Placebo 15 21.467 0.743 (21.177, 21.756)
Amica low 15 15.467 0.516 (15.177, 15.756)
Amica High 15 15.667 0.488 (15.377, 15.956)
Shaphisagrio low 15 15.467 0.516 (15.177, 15.756)
Shaphisagrio high 15 15.600 0.507 (15.310, 15.890)

Pooled StDev = 0.562308

Here P-value <0.05 so we reject null hypothesis and we conclude that there is signifficant difference.

Hope this will helpful. Thanks
