Question
In a study to gauge whether animal-assisted therapy can improve the physiological responses of heart failure patients the following completely randomized study was conducted:
30 patients were randomly assigned to one of the three therapy groups. Each patient in Group A was visited by a human volunteer accompanied by a trained dog, each patient in Group B was visited by a volunteer only and the patents in group C were not visited at all. The drop in the anxiety level of each patient was taken before and after the visiting period. The goal of the study was to test if the average drop in the anxiety level is significantly different across the three treatment groups.
Write the appropriate H0 and HA for the problem
The observations collected from the three groups are used for the following ANOVA table:
Source of Variation
F(Test Statistic)
Treatment Group
Complete the above ANOVA table and use it to draw appropriate conclusion for the study. (Use =0.05).
Source of Variation
SS df MSF(Test Statistic)
Treatment Group
39.76 Error Total 1413.72Explanation / Answer
Ho: there is no difference between means of three treatments
H1: There is a difference between means of three treatments
alpha:5%
Test statictic:
ANOVA table
F cal=0.39
Conclusion:
F cal < Fcritical value , we do not reject the H0. Hence claim is not significant
