Question

11. ABC Company purchases electronic chips from three individual suppliers: Hall Electronics, Schuler Sales and Crawford Components. The probability ABC Company will use Hall electronics is 30%, uses Schuler Sales is 20%, and Crawford Components is 50%. While all three suppliers are very reliable. the probability Hall Electronics products defective chips is 3%, the probability Schuler Crawford components produce defective chips is is the 4% respectively. ABC Company purchases electronic chips. What probability the electronic chips are defective?

Explanation / Answer

Number of accidents occur at the given place in a year = 234

so number of accidents per day = 234/365 = 0.6411 accidents per day

so Here we have to calculate that in a given week there will at least two accidents should have 80% probability;ity to happen for installing traffic light.

so Pr(X>2)=?

so here given data is binomial in nature where expected accidents per week = 234/365 * 7 = 4.49 accidnets per week

Here n = 7 and p = 0.6411

and Pr (X>2; 7; 0.6411) = 1 - Pr(X=0; 7,0.6411) - Pr(X=1; 7; 0.6411) - Pr(X=2; 7; 0.6411)

1 - 7C0 (0.6411)0 (0.3589)7 - 7C1 (0.6411)1(0.3589)6 - 7C2 (0.6411)2(0.3589)5 = 1- 0.00076 - 0.0095 - 0.0514 = 0.93834

For those situations in which n is large and p is very small, the Poisson distribution can be used to approximate the binomial distributionso we have not approximate it by poission approximation.

SO here we can say that the probability is more than 0.80 so we should install a road light there at the given place.
