Question
To find the inferences from two samples on the ti-83/84 calculator what hints or clues should I look for in the questions when it comes to figuring out which test you use.
For example if a questions tells you to construct a 98% confidence interval from the difference between two population proportions it's obvious you use 2-PropZInt
But what about when it's not as specific. How do we know if we should use Z-Test, T-Test, 2-SampZTest, 2-SampTTest, 2-SampFTest, LinRegTTest, TInterval, 1-PropZTest, etc...
Explanation / Answer
When the sample size is small i.e. n< 30 we use the T-test for equality of two mean or two construct the 95% confidence interval for the population mean.
However when the sample size is large i.e. n>30 we use Z-test.
When we have to construct the 95% confidence interval for the difference of Two population mean,
if the sample size is <30 and population variance is unknown we use 2-sample t-test.
if the sample size is >30 or population variance is known we use 2-sample Z-test.
