Question
Should a one-way or two-way anova be used to analyze this data? A mammologist compared the respiratory rate (breaths/ min) of three species of bears (polar, black, and grizzly) during hibernation. The experimenter could not measure all the individuals to sample in the same day at the target sample size, so measurements were made on different bears (27 bears were measured in all) over three days. (Reminder: check if normality is met) Use the proper statistical test to analyze the data and include a descriptive statistics table. Species Respiration Day Respiration Day Respiration Polar 1 Black 1 3 6 Grizzly 1 Polar 1 3 10 3 12 Black 1 3 11 Grizzly 1 3 12 Polar 1 18 Black 1 3 13 Grizzl 1Explanation / Answer
Assumptions:
All the three days, different species are being observed.
Data comes from normal distribution.
Data can be arranged as :
Checking for normality of data
Generating Histogram
For Polar:
For Black
For Grizzly
From the above we can see that histogram would look like a normal distribution curve.
Descriptive Statistics:
ANOVA Result:
Now from the above ANOVA table, we can see that P value is 0.0726 which is greater than 0.05, so we accept our null hypothesis i.e. Means or these three species are same.
Here we should do one way anova becuase all the samples are different. Also there is no interaction between them as seen from the data.
