Explanation / Answer

ANS:- 3

Random assignment to treatments is used to reduce unknown systematic biases due to confounding variables, that might otherwise exist between treatment groups . Actually we are studying the effect of explanatory variable on the response variable hence we want to reduce the effect of other variables (cofounding variables) on it. Variables connected with explanatory variable can distort results because they may be agent actually causing change in the response .By randomization we ensure that effect of cofounding variables should apply equally to each treatment hence we nearly breaks association (effect) of cofounding variables with (on) response variable.
