Question

(1 pt)
A simple linear model has been fit to estimate the effect of temperature (degrees Celsius) on ambient terpene concentrations (parts per million) in a data set containing 30 observations.

(a) How many degrees of freedom will the t-test have?

(b) Calculate the p value associated with this hypothesis test.

(c) At a 5% level of significance, does it appear that temperature plays a role in explaining variation in terpene concentrations?

      Yes    No

For A it is 28 and C it is No however I can't get B correct I had 0.61

Explanation / Answer

We conduct this hypothesis and the critical value of test statistic is determined at degree of freedom (n-2)

where,

n = number of observations i.e 30

a.) so, degree of freedom = 30-2

= 28

b.) Now you should look up the t-distribution table for two tailed, at level of significance = 0.05, using t-score = 0.52 and degree of freedom 28, we get

  p-value = 0.607151

   = 0.61 (on rounding off )
