Question

Conduct a hypothesis test

Resources: Big data set from one of the data sets available through the Data for Projects folder in Blackboard.

You may use, if appropriate, the data from the first project.

Additional data sets are recommended for usage: #2 Crime Rates; #3 Recovery Time; #4 Annual Wages; #5: CEO Compensation; or #6 Class Survey. If you use one of these data sets, you must randomize your data by randomly removing observations. Regardless of your choice of data set, if doubt exists, please consult with me on your choice of variable(s) and statistical tests.

If your data set is 100 or fewer observations, randomly eliminate at least five (5) but no more than nine (9) observations.

If your data set is more than 100 observations, randomly eliminate ten (10) but not more than (19) observations.

Develop a logical research hypothesis for a formal hypothesis test. (3 pts.) Justify your hypothesis as logical with a short paragraph of explanation.

For a one sample test, you must identify a logical hypothesized mean (benchmark) to compare your calculated test statistic against. You must explain the choice of the value for the hypothesized mean.

In a two sample, you must explain the reason for comparing the two groups. Why would you expect a difference in population means between the two groups?

Conduct: a hypothesis test using either the one sample test for the mean (C9, Section 3) or a two sample test (C10, Sections 1 and 2). (A two sample test for independent sample also requires the F test from C11, Section 2.)

Perform the hypothesis testing procedure on data pertaining to your data set selection.

Include the following information. (6 pts.)

The null and alternative hypotheses are stated. (Hypotheses for a one sample test must show the value of the hypothesized mean.)

The level of significance is stated.

Identification of the test statistic used in your analysis.

Statement of your decision rule (critical value and p value method).

Explanation of your decision on the null hypothesis; why did you reject or not reject Ho?

Provide: An interpretation of results and recommendation (if applicable) in a short summary paragraph. (3 pts.)

Include your data and the results of the computations of your test using graphical or tabular methods of displaying data and results. (Output from Data Analysis, MegaStat, or other software will meet this requirement.) Include your edited data (i.e., you eliminated observations) used for your calculation of the statistical test on a separate tab without comments or output.

Explanation / Answer

First identified our object in a particular data set. Based on our object we make a hypothesis which makes a decision about the unknown variable. This means that the research showed that the evidence supported the hypothesis and further research is built upon that.

THe step is developed the null hypothesis and then determine the sample for this hypothesis. Based on sample statistic we concluded our results.

For one sample test, if you hypothesize that the sample mean will be not equal to the mean of the benchmark, then one sample t or z test statistic is used.

In a two sample, if the sample mean of benchmark of male is different or not to the female benchmark, then you would expect a difference in population means between the two groups. For this we use z and t test with known and unknown equal or not equal variance.
