Question
Currently, marijuana is being decriminalized for both medicinal and recreational purposes. However, hard drugs such as cocaine and heroine are still illegal and carry sever legal consequences. Statistically, many people die each year from bicycle falls, swimming pool drowning and alcohol abuse; yet, these activities are fully legal. There are claims that maintaining the illegal status of hard drugs leads to black markets and increased violence. So, there are those who say that we should have the autonomy and personal liberty to take whatever drugs we want, recognizing that there may be consequences to our behavior. A quote from a recent issue of the online magazine, The Week, states – “In a free society, the presumption must always be that individuals, not government, get to decide what is in their own best interest.” What is your take?
Explanation / Answer
As statistically many people die each year from bicycle falls, swimming pool drowing and alcohol abuse increases risk of life and government work of maintenance increases.
Also there are statistical claims that maintaining the illegal status of drugs leads to increase blaack markets and violence so if black market increases government goes in heavy loss as illegal money increases and similarly if violence increases number of cases of violence increases and work increases for government just because people want to act as per there interest.
These all illgel and activities which are unfavourable for government or causing loss for government should be ban or production of such things should be stopped fully so that intake reduces and the time which government gives to maintain such things can give for development of many other things.
